The Remote Play disagreement
Steam’s category list for the sequel includes Remote Play Together. TheGamer’s co-op guide, dated 5 Nov 2026, says the game does not support Steam Remote Play for online local co-op. I am not erasing either line. If you are planning a session, do not count on Remote Play. Use a local second controller or the in-game room code.
The same guide says only the host’s save records progress. A partner who joins does not walk away with the chapter marked on their own file. Whether that online partner must own the game is not in the guide. Local play is the case that is explicit: the second person does not buy it. DLC ownership for a partner is also unstated. The sequel’s season pass has no released expansion yet, so there is no “partner needs the island pack” rule to copy from 2022.
Questions
Can I play solo?
Yes. The whole game can be played alone, and there is an optional no-timer mode.
Is it four players?
No. The cap in the store and the co-op guide is two.
Does my friend need the game?
Not for local split-screen. For online, the guides do not say.
