Is Escape Academy a horror game?
No. Steam’s user tags for the sequel are puzzle, escape room, adventure, casual, comedy, funny, cartoony, mystery, open world and investigation. Horror is not among them. The Xbox rating is Everyone.
What the spikes are doing
The classroom screenshot really does hang a ceiling of spikes over the desks, and rooms threaten long drops. GameSpew calls the look quirky and cartoonish. The ESRB line cited for the series mentions alcohol and tobacco reference, fantasy violence and language, on the Everyone scale, not a mature horror label. I would not send someone here for a scare, and I would not tell a nervous player there is zero tension.
The same answer fits the 2022 game. Its store tags are the comedy escape-room set, and RPGFan’s review treated it as a colorful simulator. A search that spikes around Halloween is still this question, not a seasonal horror mode. No such mode is listed.
